Amy and Sal will be printing pre carved linocut blocks with the Oakland Public Libraries Sept, Oct and Nov.
We will be printing blocks with folks. At this time we will not be carving at the workshops. If you are interested in carving your own block let us know for a future workshop. All materials will be provided. The program offers workshops for ages 10 and up as well as adult. Check the calendar for details. (Click the photo for link)
Amor Eterno Press is Amy Miranda George and Salvador Chamuco Cortez. With the support and encouragement of Eastside Arts Alliance, Amy and Chamuco were able to learn printmaking from Juan R. Fuentes in 2014. Since then they have published a book of linocut prints, curated art exhibitions, printed at San Quentin, taught classes and printed with the community at San Antonio park.
Each print is unique. Linocut blocks are hand carved from mounted linoleum. Prints are pressed on our beautiful Griffin etching press at Amor Eterno Arte. For larger prints we print at Eastside Arts Alliance on their restored American French etching press. All prints are printed with oil ink that cures for 3 days. Our paper is archival 100% cotton. No corporations were used to make these prints. All suppliers are small independent companies.
Our Griffin etching press was built by Reynaldo Terrazas Santos and Rafael De La Torrre in the early 1990’s. The Griffin Press company was located in our building, where Amor Eterno Arte is today. Reynaldo designed and crafted the stunning brick accents and arched windows at Amor Eterno Arte. We are honored to continue the creative spirit the Terrazas Santos family created.
Amy Miranda George
Amy Miranda George is a relief printmaker and gallery curator born and raised in Huchuin so called Alameda. She has had the privilege to work in galleries and museums throughout Bay Area for 20+ years. Amy started out in a non-profit gallery in SF, Red Ink Studios, whcich showed her the importance of uplifting emerging and self taught artists. With the high cost of living in the Bay Area, it is very difficult to survive as a full time artist. The artists she collaborates with are working full time jobs while still creating art …as teachers, community organizers, parents or blue collar workers. Amor Eterno Arte’s goal is to provide artists with clear, open communication, empathy and a chance present their work professionally to our community. Unfortunately these support systems are seldom provided to emerging and self taught artists despite their importance as culture keepers. Amy is grateful to the relationships created with the artists at Amor Eterno Arte. Together they have created a flexible and supportive art space.
Salvador Chamuco Cortez
Sal “Chamuco” Cortez is a 2 spirit Purépecha/ Otomí/Chichimeca /Xicano artist born in occupied Ohlone lands . A lifelong drawer and a 20+ year Tattooer. Chamuco was raised in the Fruitvale district and supported by artistic parents and creative community. Chamuco’s focus in printmaking is on prehispanic images; sharing ancestral images and creating new and reinterpreting images, to expand the magnificent lexicon of indigenous symbols for the rest of his life.
