Dreams Realized: The Undeniable Artwork of Irene Shiori

    Sat June 15th 2pm-7pm

Amor Eterno Arte is proud to present Dreams Realized: The Undeniable Work of Irene Shiori, a solo exhibition by Bay Area born artist Irene Takahashi Coker. The exhibition will be Irene’s 3rd solo exhibition at Amor Eterno Arte. It has been an honor to bear witness to Irene’s artistic journey through each exhibition.

Irene’s artwork has been emboldened by the significant experiences and life altering transitions of the last 2 years. The struggles and victories with relationships, supporting community in the fights against racism and embracing self introspection, all have shaped Irene’s multidisciplinary art and her incredible spirit. Works include powerfully vulnerable Chicano iconography in ballpoint on paper, immersive color filled murals with spray can, delicate carved etchings on glass, sparkle and texture in lowrider enamel car paint, bold strokes and traditional processes in sign painting and glaze on pottery; Irene has touched each art medium with her deeply committed empathy, technical skill and culture.

The flowing strands of hair against a soft cheek and tear filled eyes. A cartoon payasito always by your side, through the good and bad times. The chains of fear are broken and the roses are supple and velvety. The fanciest peacock struts thru the streets while praying hands rise to the clouds of a dream. Monarchs and stars dance in the sky over the warm glow of marigolds and candles. The strength and feminine spirit in the women Irene draws and paints are venerated by being front and center. Creating and thriving as a woman artist in a cis male dominated tattoo and art culture while uplifting those around her is what makes Irene Shirori’s art undeniable.

Please join us Sat June 15th from 2pm - 7pm in the gallery at @amor_eterno_arte for the opening. Irene Shiori will be in attendance. Please come support and wish @ireneshiori a happy birthday!

The exhibition will be on view Sat June 15th through Saturday August 31st. For more information, addionation images or to be added to our collectors list please contact curator Amy Miranda George @corazonquebrado at info@amoreternoarte.com

PORK CHOPS. Pick one. Sit down. Shut up.

Art Exhibition Celebrating East Bay Tattooing

PORK CHOPS is a celebration of the East Bay tattoo flash tradition. Dedicated to the street shop design on the wall where you had no choice and you were scared as shit of your tattooer. Pork chops were the most popular tattoo designs cut out and assembled on one flash sheet. It was those designs that were sold the most going from ground round to pork chop. The pork chop was loved and hated by veteran and rookie tattooers. The repetition could be torturous. But after decades of tattooing the designs became bread and butter. The founding tattooers didn’t go to art school and didn’t have business degrees. They were genuine outlaws. Although Amor Eterno Arte bears little resemblance to the shops of old, we honor and celebrate our tough as nails roots.

      Exhibition dates: 04.29.17-06.30.17

      The Culture of Star Wars

art exhibition curated by Amy George Cortez and Chamuco Cortez

Star Wars has developed into a powerful element of our cultural identity. Constantly weighing the light and the dark, republic vs the empire, it mimics our struggles and our politics. In every culture, the Hero of 1,000 faces appears in its oral history. A hero goes on a life changing adventure to oppose strange forces. In this unusual world, the hero faces their opposition and is victorious! Returning home, they share the power and the knowledge they have gained from this fantastic adventure with their community.

Growing up in Oakland, you know what it’s like to grow up in Tattooine. Obi Wan Kenobi said Mos Eisley was a "Retched hive of scum and villainy" much like the media portrays the Oakland we grew up in. What are the parallels you find in your own life in Star Wars?

We asked 22 artists to explore their own culture of Star Wars and how the films have influenced their creativity.

Many Gods No Masters is a collection of new work honoring spirit, revolution and liberation. My art is constantly inspired by the resiliency and magic of Black and Brown Indigenous peoples, our ancestors all over the diaspora, and the way spirit is always present in our work and lives. My work is inspired by decolonization and how Black and Brown Indigenous peoples have always called upon the Gods, and spirits around us for protection and power. We are able to step into our personal power knowing that there is a greater power all around us, wanting us to succeed and manifest our dreams. My work is inspired by dreams and the dreamers of the world always moving towards liberation. My work is inspired by the healers, the brujas, the medicine womxn, who heal and inspire and protect our peoples and the earth even during the darkest times. And my work is always inspired by the earth that holds us and heals us.

      - Francis Mead

We are honored to have Francis Mead in the gallery at Amor Eterno Arte. The new works are large colorful visions of divine feminine energies. A departure from the black and white high contrast illustrations she has become known for. Her new work is immersive and beautifully reverent. Each piece draws you into a familiar ancestral space with a stream of consciousness. A cool and whole space filled with the energy of inspiration and connectivity. Now more than ever we need these portals, reminding us that the oppression of contemporary society is not our destined path.

Francis Mead is a Black mixed heritage artist, dreamer and queer mama rooted in Huichin Ohlone Territory / Oakland, CA. Ever since she can remember she made art to connect with herself, her peoples, and the spirits that guide her. Her creative project Illustrated Truths seeks to uplift the dreams, history and magic of people of color, womxn, queers and young people in particular, as a way to inspire and liberate her peoples and the earth.

      Mexica Visions
As we walk into the future
We feel our ancestors behind us
      Walking with us.
      How do we proceed?!
      Fearlessly adelante!

      We know what to do.
The memory is in our blood.
Born connected to our Mexica birth sign.
      We are the calendar.

When we work together. We are ollin.
      We are the movement.
      What we do is sacred.
      Is love.
      Is healing.
Is our prayer to our ancestors
      and to our future.

We look back at our ancestors and we tell them,
it’s ok, we are from the future.
